Backlinks – Back-links Described and Expanded

February 28th, 2010 admin No comments

Within SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) circles, there is a large amount of talk about this particular factor known as back links. And if you are new to everything about Online marketing (IM) or have just released your first website, you might not understand precisely what they’re and even how crucial they’re if you are looking for quite high Search engine rank on the internet.

If your web business will use pay for traffic like Adbrite, yahoo’s or adwords paid ads, then back-links are something that you don’t need to worry about. So, let’s assume that you are likely to be counting on decent natural rankings in the search engines (they are the totally free ones) and you should get your internet site high up on Page 1 of Google – preferably #1 – but you don’t understand this Search engine optimization business or using back links as well as your new web business can’t yet afford someone achieving this mysterious art for you.

In brief, a back-link is a hyperlink (a link that may be clicked on) on the site somewhere else on the web that links aimed at your web. In its most basic crudest form, that’s a back-link.
In contrast to Bing and Yahoo that are more driven by factors on your own site (though together they hold lower than 25% of the search results market), Google uses backlinks (on other websites) determine if the new site on, say, Cat Fish, ought to rank highly on their search results or not.
Google will consider the actual so-called anchor text within the link (the term or phrases that’s linked) as well as the authority of the site that the link is originating from to ascertain how highly or lowly your website should rank. And with regards to Google organic search engine, backlinks are pretty much all you must influence the ranking success of the site.

Your next question should therefore be, how do i get these back-links for my new Cat Fish site? Back in the prehistoric age of the web, you would approach other webmasters and politely request a hyperlink on their web site and in return you’d offer one on your site to theirs. Today, that’s impractical for a lot of reasons. Firstly, Google hates what it calls reciprocal links where sites link to one another so those links will have virtually no value. Next, you now need link volume to have traction in google as most sites on Page 1 of Google will usually have a hefty volume of links (think within the hundreds and thousands) when the particular keyword or search term may be worth ranking for.

There are several other factors to think about like whether the links are dofollow or nofollow, the PageRank of the site where the back-link originates from and having backlinks from a big number of sites. Contrary to a lot of SEO advice, I’ve never found the relevancy of your backlink site’s topics to my site a factor in any way in gaining linking power but regularity of linkbuilding is very important.
